WHAT?

Packa-Ching

Packa-Ching is a recycling buy-back centre that purchases recyclable materials from you. You will be paid in Kilorands for your materials via your cellphone, and can then purchase airtime, withdraw cash, transfer money or pay at participating shops. Ask a Packa-Ching staff member for the list of participating shops.

We accept plastic, glass, cans and paper, and give you Kilorands in return. Please make sure that the different recyclables have been cleaned or washed, as well as separated, before you bring them to a Packa-Ching buy-back Centre.

How to Recycle

  1. Make sure the product can be recycled.
  2. Rinse your recyclable packaging in used water.
    (Using fresh water is wasteful.)
  3. Allow it to drip-dry.
  4. Keep your different types of materials separate from one another so that you can earn the most money for them.
  5. Take your recyclable materials to Packa-Ching to earn some Kilorands.

Tip: You can squash your plastic and cans to make them smaller so that you can fit a lot more in your bag.

How it Works

  1. Bring your separated recyclable materials and sign up at the Packa-Ching buy-back centre.
  2. You will be paid for your materials via your cellphone and you will also spend your money using your cellphone, so remember to bring your phone with you to Packa-Ching.
  3. Your materials will be weighed.
  4. You will be paid according to the current market price for each material.

BRING YOUR RECYCLABLES TO PACKA-CHING AND EARN SOME KILORANDS!

Plastic That We Recycle

  • Soft drink, juice and water bottles. (Blue and clear are collected together. Brown and green are collected together. No other colours are accepted.)
  • Common white or coloured plastic such as milk bottles, and shampoo and detergent containers.
  • Soft, flexible plastic bottles such as squeezable sauce bottles and plastic-film products such as bread bags.
  • Hard but flexible plastic such as ice-cream tubs and lunchboxes.
  • Rigid, brittle plastic such as margarine tubs, yoghurt tubs and foam or polystyrene containers.

There are many different types of plastic and each one has a number that can be found on the product. Plastic must be collected separately according to these numbers in order for you to earn the most money for your materials.

Plastic That We Cannot Recycle

  • Hard, rigid, clear plastic such as cordial bottles.
  • Multilayered packaging such as sauce sachets, soup packets and crisp packets.

Cans That We Can Recycle

  • Aluminium and steel cans
